北欧系NWOBHMバンドの大御所。80年、デンマークはコペンハーゲンにて、キング・ダイアモンド（vo）とハンク・シャーマン（g）を中心に結成。キングによるハイ・トーンを基調とした完璧なヴォーカリゼイション、メロディアスで叙情的なギター・フレーズ、ドラマティックな曲展開は、すべてのメタル・キッズを震撼させるだろう。また、楽曲も然ることながら、超気合いの入ったオカルトチックなステージング、とくにキングによるジーン・シモンズ直系の顔面白黒メイクは、星の数ほど存在する北欧系暗黒メタル・バンドに甚大なる影響をあたえた。しかし、北欧メタルの重要なマーケットであるはずのここ日本での認知度はいまひとつ。デンマーク・メタルはプリティ・メイズだけではないのだ。
