  グリフ・リースが描く痛みと希望、ユニバーサルなポップアルバム『Pang!』

  「痛み（『Pang!』）」と題された本作を、敢えて優しくも活気を持ったアルバムだと言ってしまおう。Super Furry Animalsのフロントマン、Gruff Rhys（グリフ・リース）による6作目のアルバム『Pang!』は素朴な魅力に溢れている。本作のミックス・マスタリングを託されたのが、南アフリカのエレクトロ・アーティストのムジであり、彼とのコミュニケーションがグリフのキャリアに新しい風を吹かせた。本作では自国ウェールズの文化とアフリカの文化が溶け合い、また、制作期間中によく聴いていたというPrinceの『Around the World in a Day』からの反響がある。本作が音楽的にカラフルなポップ作品に仕上がった一因は、間違いなくかの名盤からの影響だろう。さて、本作のリリックは全編ウェールズ語である。訛りが激しいことでも有名な、グリフの飾らない歌が聴こえてくる。
