    The Louvin Brothersザ・ルーヴィン・ブラザース

    アラバマのアパラチア山脈で生まれ育ったチャーリーとイラの兄弟によって結成された、ザ・ルーヴィン・ブラザーズは、30年代のカントリー・フォーク・バンドに影響を受け、幼い頃からハーモニーで歌うことを覚える。チャーリーの情熱的なテナー・ヴォイスと、イラの素朴なハイ・テナーは絶妙にマッチし、フォーク／ゴスペル／ヒルビリーの要素を取り入れたコーラス・ワークは、その後のカントリー・ハーモニーの基礎となった。55年には出演依頼を10回近く断っていた、カントリー・ミュージックの殿堂グランド・オル・オ—プリーに出演。また、彼らが63年の解散を迎えるまで、人気は雪だるま式に膨れ上がっていたといえよう。そして彼らがロックに与えた影響も大きく、バーズはアルバム『ロデオの恋人達』で「クリスチャン・ライフ」をカヴァーし、エミルー・ハリスもその影響を公言している。なおイラは、65年に自動車事故で死亡している。
