ハウス界の暴れん坊のカーティス・ジョーンズは93年にグリーン・ヴェルヴェット名義でリリースを開始し、同年にRelief labelを立ち上げ「Preacher Man」を始めとして「Flash」や「The Stalker」等のヒットを飛ばした。彼は簡素でありながらファンキーはトラックに危なげで狂気めいたエッジを加えることで、事実上ハード・ハウスというジャンルを確立した張本人である。グリーン・ヴェルヴェットと別名義のカジミアの人気と共に、DJSneak、ポール・ジョンソンやジェミニなどのアーティストをシーンに送り出したことで、彼は90年代のシカゴ・ハウスの復活に大きく貢献した。
