72年にデビュー・シングル「ヴァージニア・プレイン」で颯爽と英チャートを賑わせ、華々しいキャリアを幕開けたロキシー・ミュージック。この時点でのロキシーは、過剰なメイクを施したグラマラスなイメージが濃厚なグループであった（今の姿からは想像を絶するが、あのブライアン・イーノも化粧を施していた……うーん）。
作品を重ねるにつれ、グラム以降の"モダン・ポップ立役者"としてその地位を築き、ソングライター兼ヴォーカリストであるブライアン・フェリーのダンディズムとゆらめくような歌唱法が浮き彫りに——。しかし、「恋はドラッグ」の大ヒットを生んだアルバム『サイレン』（75年）発表後、バンドは一時活動を休止。大のR&B好きで知られるフェリーは、英国流ファンキー仕立てのソロ作品発表に邁進していった。その後、バンドが復活したのは、79年『マニュフェスト』においてであり、ここからはロキシーの真骨頂ともいえる「男のロマンティシズム」全開の悲恋ソング、「ダンス・アウェイ」を輩出した。
以降、『フレッシュ・アンド・ブラッド』（80年）『アヴァロン』（82年）の２作品（共に全英No.1を記録）で、耽美的な世界観は頂点を極めたが、フェリーのソロ・プロジェクト的な色合いが濃厚になり本格的に活動は休止。彼の自分自身に耽溺するような恍惚のヴォーカル・スタイルは、まんまソロ作品に移行されている。
また、オリジナル・メンバーであったイーノはアンビエント／環境ミュージックを確立、デヴィッド・ボウイやジョン・ハッセルとのコラボレーションでも手腕を発揮している。セッション・ミュージシャンとして引っぱりだこのフィル・マンザネラ（g）も、数枚のソロ作品を発表した。
さて、01年にロキシー・ファンにとってはたまらない朗報が！ なんと、結成30周年にあたる今年、日本も含めたワールド・ツアーを行うというのだ。今、蘇える真のダンディズム……。
