    Parliamentパーラメント

    Pファンク＝サイケデリック・ファンク。デトロイトの床屋を溜まり場にしていたジョージ・クリントンとその仲間たちが、58年にパーラメンツというコーラス・グループを結成——これがPファンク軍団の長い歴史の始まりとなった。後に彼らは、ブラック・ロックを演奏するファンカデリックと、ファンク中心のパーラメントというふたつのグループに分派されるようになる。
    パーラメントとして発表されたアルバムは、70年の『オズミウム』が最初だった。その後クリントン親分を慕って、JB's一派からメイシオ・パーカーやフレッド・ウェズリーによるホーン・セクション、さらにブーツィー・コリンズ（b）らが馳せ参じ、オリジナル・メンバー（ファンカデリック／パーラメント）のバニー・ウォーレル（key）らと合流、一大ファンク軍団を形成する。派手なコスチュームに身を包み、ストリートの出来事を宇宙という舞台に移してアメコミ的に描いた“スペース・オペラ”とでもいうべき音世界を展開。ラッパーの元祖とも言われるクリントンの歌（というより語り）を中心に、ウォーレルの空間を奇妙にねじ曲げるようなキーボードの音色、ブーツィーのドス黒さ全開のベース・ライン、そして多彩なシンガーたちによるヴォーカル＆コーラス……それらが織り成す、クールなファンクネスを表したサウンドは、主に黒人社会に受け入れられる。それは、同時期に活躍した、ファンタジックな音世界を標榜して白人にもアピールしたアース・ウィンド＆ファイアーとは対照的な様相だ。——以後も、メンバーを激しく出入りさせながら、傑出した作品を次々と発表。ブラック・ミュージック・シーンにおいて絶大な影響力を誇るようになり、そして70年代のファンク・ミュージックを代表するグループになったのである。
    現在では、パーラメント、ファンカデリックを統合したPファンク・オールスターズ名義で活動。サウンド面／思想面の両方において、多くのヒップホッパー／トラック・メイカーから絶大なるリスペクトを受けている。
