ボブ・ディランと共に60年代フォーク・ブームの象徴である、ジョーン・バエズ。その処女性を秘めた清らかなソプラノ・ヴォイスは、"天使の歌声"と評され、絶大なる支持を得た。
弱冠18歳でニューポート・フォーク・フェスティヴァルのステージに立ち、劇的なデビューを飾ったバエズは、翌60年に１stアルバム『ジョーン・バエズ』を発表。これがポップス・ファンをも巻き込む大ヒットを記録し、一躍"フォークの女王"と祭り上げられる。ディランとも親密な交際を重ね、幾度となくステージを共にするなど、フォーク・ブームの推進力となった。
70年代には、ロック的なサウンドも取り入れ、幅広い聴衆にアピール。いまも現役フォーク・シンガーとして活動中である。
